Literature Text

When fearsome dragons freely roam the skies,
the prophecy's foretold hero will fight
to vanquish the evil, and peace will reign
once more. She'll gather friends against evil,
to fight and to slay. The heroes will rise
against all odds to face mighty dragons.

For normal people, defeating dragons
is no small task. But hailing from the skies,
she is no normal person. At the rise
of the second sun, the signal to fight
will come. All may seem lost, and that evil
will prevail, but under the mad King's reign

a small light will be born. The darkness' reign
cannot snuff it out before the dragons
fly at the second sun. For though evil
is great, light is greater. Up to the skies
it will ascend to grow and learn to fight
what no man can defeat. And with the rise

of the horrendous hordes, again she'll rise,
then fall to earth. Under the mad King's reign,
the second sun marks the start of the fight:
man against man, and man against dragon.
Descending, hurtling down from the skies,
the great beasts fly en masse. They're not evil

inherently, most of them. Mediaeval
forces of chaos control them. They rose
to power, these forces, when the bright skies
grew black. They overwhelmed light 'neath the reign
of the mad King. Now the goodly dragons
must be seen as villainous--they must fight

against those they would do no harm. The war
rages on 'til the light and the evil
finally clash. She'll free the great dragons
from their insufferable bonds, then rise
to be seen no more. Peace and light will reign
over the land, beneath the clear blue skies.

To fight and to slay, the heroes will rise
to vanquish the evil. And peace will reign
when fearsome dragons freely roam the skies.
So I FINALLY finished my sestina. I am SO glad the due date got pushed back as much as it did, because if it hadn't been then I would be screwed. It's due tomorrow and the original due date was a little over a week ago. Yeah. So y'know (or not) how I said sonnets are evil and I hated them? I retract that. Sestinas are worse. Way worse. Bleh. I feel like this poem is really awful, but I really don't care right now. Also I spelled "medieval" as "mediaeval" because I like that spelling (dA says it's not a word, but dA doesn't know what it's talking about :P) and I used it to mean archaic/ancient/old/old-fashioned, etc. Basically its synonyms rather than its definitions ^^
